last years vacation - part 2

Here are the last of the pictures from our vacation this past summer in Massachusetts. Seeing them makes me eager to go on our trip this year! I'm looking forward to it!!!
--------
One morning I decided to go for a walk in the grassy marsh around Fourth Cliff. It was such a beautiful day, and it was exciting to go exploring the trails!

Fourth Cliff has an interesting history to it. It was once connected to the Scituate mainland, but a severe storm called the "Portland Gale" struck on November 26th & 27th of 1898, causing the South River to change course, cutting off Humarock from the rest of Scituate, and making it a peninsula.

The place marked "New Inlet" was once a thin strip of beach that originally connected the two places together.

--------

My Grandfather took us on a tour of the town of Scituate and the surrounding ones of Cohasset, Marshfield and Hull. It was so nice to revisit all the old places we've been to, and at the same introduce Ally to them.

Looking out from Hull Gut to Peddocks Island.

--------

Fort Revere. A military fort built during the Revolutionary War to protect Boston Harbor.

It was a little creepy inside the bunkers, as they were dimly lit, and you didn't quite know what to expect when you went inside each room.

I had to laugh, though, when I came across a fireplace inside one of chambers... it seemed so out of place! I had never seen one before in any other military structures that I've been to, but I guess the soldiers were making the place as cozy as they could in their home away from home. :)

The view from on top of the fort was gorgeous! The lighthouse in the distance is Boston light FYI.

--------

On a walk with Mike and Ally, we came across a myriad of tidal pools... it was irresistible not to go wading in them!

--------

While we were in the area, we had to stop at the Audubon Society. I have such wonderful memories of taking summer classes there when I was a little girl; going on nature walks, learning about the wildlife that surrounded us, being taught about composting, having the delight of making sun tea, and all in all enjoying my small self thoroughly! Good times, good times. :)

Fin.

So there are the pictures I have to share with you today, and a few history lessons to boot. :) I hope you enjoyed seeing the place in the wide, wide world that I call "home."

(yes, even if I don't live there.)
