"... When Satan huffs and puffs and tries to blow out the flame of our joy, we have an endless supply of kindling in the Word of God. Even on days when every cinder in our soul feels cold, if we crawl to the Word of God and cry out for ears to hear, the cold ashes will be lifted and the tiny spark of life will be fanned. For "the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul."

John Piper is great! I have yet to read "Desiring God," but I loved his book "Don't Waste Your Life." You ever watch any of his sermons online? They're great too. Anyway, I really love this quote. It's so very true to our daily walk with God.
You know, I've actually never read "Don't Waste Your Life," but I'll have to get a copy once I finish reading "Desiring God." I found with John Piper's works that I can only read small portions at a time, as he packs in so much to think about, that I need to digest what I read, before I move on.
And yes, I have listened to quite a few of his sermons online. I love his passion & his joyfulness when he preaches!
Yes, I have found that to be the case when I am reading to listening to John Piper's works. God has blessed him with vast amounts of knowledge and wisdom.
Mmmm yes! He always gets that twinkle in his eye when he's talking about God. It reminds me of when a little kid is talking about something he is very excited about.
He does get that twinkle in his eye, doesn't he? I loved the metaphor :)
I can only hope that I will be as joyful as he is as I progress with my life. He is such an inspiration! And truly practices what he preaches in regards to Christian Hedonism.
Often times that seems improbable doesn't it? But I believe, as long as we seek to give Christ the glory in everything we do, He will shine, and just like John Piper, we will be joyful and blessed, though we may not always feel joyful and blessed in our own eyes. :)
I agree with you on that one!
